About Brian Emmet
Brian, a native of Detroit and graduate of Harvard, has been pastor
of Covenant Church since 1996. Before then he served as our assistant
pastor for ten years, and has been a member of the church since
its founding in 1975.
According to Brian, "The best thing that ever happened to
me was encountering Jesus Christ when I was a freshman in college,
way back in 1974. The second best thing was when Kathy Bell agreed
to marry me, in 1977! The third best thing is our three wonderful
children, Katie, Amy and Peter!" Brian and Kathy celebrated
their 25th anniversary in 2002 and are eagerly looking forward to
the next 25 years of life and love together.
Upon graduating from college, Brian worked at Logos Bookstores,
an association of independent booksellers, from 1974-1986. He was
the first (and current) headmaster of Covenant School (1985-present),
and served as the school's 5th/6th grade teacher for ten years.
When asked about his "philosophy of ministry," Brian
responds, "I believe that God is always at work, always drawing
people to himself through Jesus, always creating his kingdom in
hearts that are willing and extending it through lives that are
faithful. My role as a pastor is to proclaim God's life-changing,
life-shaping, life-transforming Message, to help people discern
what God is saying to them, and to help them get going on loving
God with everything they've got and loving their neighbors as they
love themselves."
